A Texas woman was left with brutal injuries after she was viciously attacked by both a snake and a hawk while mowing her lawn.

Peggy Jones told click2Houston she’d been on a tractor mower when the snake fell out of the sky and landed on her at her home in Silsbee.

As it began to tighten around her arm, a hawk then swooped down, and began clawing at a defenseless Jones in an effort to grab its prey.

‘The snake was squeezing so hard, and I was waving my arms in the air,’ she told the outlet.

‘Then, this hawk was swooping down clawing at my arm over and over. I just kept saying, “Help me, Jesus, Help me, Jesus.”‘

Eventually ripping the snake from her arm, the hawk – successful in its scavenge – flew away, leaving Jones with a bloodied arm covered in deep lacerations and bruises.

‘I was yelling and screaming. [My husband] didn’t know what I was saying. I thought I was bit by a snake,’ Jones explained.

Running out to the commotion, Jones’s husband took his wife to the emergency room, where she was treated for her injuries.

Jones said she knew how close she could have been to getting bitten by the snake as she ‘slung her arms from side to side’ in a bid to remove the slithering intruder.

‘He kept striking in my face, he was striking my glasses,’ she said.

‘I discovered the lens on my glasses was broken and there was snake venom on my glasses.’

The unexpected attack left Jones with a sense of relief, given it could have had a worse outcome.

Jones said this wasn’t even her first snake attack, detailing to click2Houston that she’d survived a venomous bite a few years back.

Texas is one of the largest states in the United States and encompasses a diverse range of habitats and is positioned along the flight path of many migratory species.

An impressive 670 species of bird can be found in the region including at least 19 hawk species, 15 of which roam the region regularly.

While it remains unclear what type of hawk and snake were part of the attack, it is common for them to be spotted at this time of year, according to avibirds.
