THREE people have died and a man was rushed to hospital after a horror crash in Argyll.

The harrowing two-car smash happened on Friday at around 2.30pm  in the Appin area.

Emergency crews raced to the scene on the A828 Oban to Fort William road, near Castle Stalker.

The head-on collision happened between a silver Honda Civic and a black HGV.

Tragically, three men who were in the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene.

A fourth male occupant of the car was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries.

The road was closed and locked down until around 2.25am on Saturday morning.

Officers have confirmed this afternoon that a 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence.

He was released pending further enquiries.

Police have launched a probe into the incident to establish the full circumstances behind the accident.

They have urged anyone with any information, or anyone who may have seen anything, to come forward and speak with officers.

Sergeant Kevin Craig said: “At this time, our thoughts are with the families and friends of the deceased men.

“I would also like to thank the public for their patience and understanding as officers attended the scene and carried out their enquiries.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash and would ask anyone with information, or who witnessed anything, to contact officers via 101 quoting incident 1976 of Friday, 19 August, 2022."
