It’s no secret Italians are fussy about their food, and most would expect tourists to abide by their traditions when visiting the country.

But one TikToker has broken all rules by squeezing ketchup on to his pizza, and has sent Italians into a frenzy.

Ben Reid, who goes by the username @itsbenreid, posted the unforgivable food crime to his 2.7 million TikTok followers.

Ben smothered his food with ketchup, swirling the bottle around the plate and covering the Margherita pizza in the sauce.

The viral video shows a young waitress visibly cringing, clutching her head in her hands and calling the manager out to witness the horror.

The manager stands at a safe distance before taking off his sunglasses for a better look and storming forward to ask the young man: ‘What are you doing?’

He proceeds to pick up the ketchup bottle which, it would appear, the TikToker had brought to the restaurant himself and throw it while screaming ‘No’.

Ben had barely had the time to cut up his pizza and hadn’t even taken a bite before the manager intervened.

While watching the ketchup bottle fly before his eyes, he wrote in the video: ‘I thought my time had come.’

The food crime left a young waitress visibly cringing, clutching her head in her hands and calling the manager out to witness the horror

The TikToker had posted an earlier video before the manager intervened as part of a series named ‘P****** off every single Italian I encounter,’ while travelling round the country.

The two videos have received a mass of attention on the app and have gained over 10 million views in total.

Users flooded the comment section with disbelief for the food crime, one wrote: ‘I screamed at my phone even before he did and I’m not Italian.’

Others agreed: ‘I’m not Italian but I started crying, ‘I’m not even Italian and I’m offended.’

Some have jumped to the defence of the TikToker and have even admitted their own food crimes. One user wrote: ‘Admittedly this is me but with ranch instead of ketchup.’

One user wrote: ‘I only have ketchup on pizza,’ another user added: ‘So you’re telling me for forty years I have been eating pizza wrong.’

While others were shocked: ‘It’s wild that they’re so worried about what someone else is eating.’

Another agreed: ‘If you paid for it then idk why they are getting mad.’

Some even claimed ketchup on pizza is encouraged in their home countries, one said: ‘That’s actually how we eat pizza in Mexico.’

Another agreed: ‘That’s how the whole country of Brazil eats their picture.’

The viral video belongs to a series of TikToks all with the same intention of annoying Italians.

Ben has nonchalantly committed other food crimes in upscale Italian restaurants, and even took his own scissors to a restaurant to cut his spaghetti with.

Ben claimed that the waiter, who was visibly disturbed at the sight, tried to kick him out.
