Tragedy as father and son are killed after hitting each other in freak head-on road smash: Bike-riding dad, 81, went out looking for his boy, 19, who ploughed into him on his motorbike

A father and son who were travelling in opposite directions – one on a motorbike and the other on a bicycle – on an unlit road were both killed after they crashed into each other in a freak head-on collision. 

Franciso Pequeno da Silva, 81, was concerned that his 19-year-old son Pedro Henrique Sena da Silva had not come home from a Christmas party in the city of São José de Mipibu, north Brazil. 

Franciso thought his son might have been in an accident when he failed to return home after hours away as Pedro knew they had a job to do together the next day. 

Overcome with worry, the elderly father decided to go out to look for Pedro on his bicycle on Monday night.

But as Franciso travelled towards the venue of the party on an unlit him, his son came speeding around a sharp bend and crashed into the pensioner in a horrific head-on collision.

The father and son, who was returning home at the time, were severely injured in the tragic crash and died as paramedics were rushing them to hospital. 

State Highway Police believe Pedro was speeding on the village dirt road when he collided with his father’s bicycle, reports Globo 1.

The police suspect Pedro was also intoxicated from the alcohol he drank at the party.

Police are investigating their deaths and have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations. 

Francisco had married late in life and had apparently been overjoyed when he had a son with his young wife. The father and son had only recently started working together, although it was unclear what the business was.
