BRITS are shivering in a -2C freeze – with the Met Office warning that wintry showers will hit within days.
The mercury fell below zero in some parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland overnight, with frost in the far north.
Now the Met Office says that a band of rain will move southwards on Thursday and Friday.
Wintry showers are possible in the north east at the weekend, with cold and bright weather the norm elsewhere.
Today there will be cloud and outbreaks of rain across England and Wales.
Other parts of the UK will enjoy spells of hazy sunshine – before the sky clouds over with some rain expected.

Tonight will also be fairly grey, with winds picking up strength as they blow across northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Further southwards it will be dry with a mix of clear spells and patchy fog.
Tomorrow will also be windy, cloudy, rainy and cold in the north – with some weak hazy sunshine elsewhere.
Yesterday evening the Met Office said: "There is a split in temperatures across the UK tonight.
