Michael Turner, 52, trashed his room at the seaside hotel before leaving the shower running to flood it.

The alarm was raised when fellow guests complained about leaking water in the ceiling after he left the shower running.

A court heard Turner was found naked in the shower by owner Dale Smith at the Heritage Hotel in Porthcawl near Bridgend, South Wales.

Prosecutor Andrew Kendal said Mr Smith arrived at the scene with his mother to find the room had been ‘completely trashed’.

The court heard there was substantial damage to walls, carpets, and electrics along with smashed glass from the shower across the floor.

Turner, who was high on drugs, was arrested but denied being responsible – and said the room had been in a ‘perfect condition’ the night before.

The court heard he later said he ‘can’t remember’ committing the offence on October 7 last year.

Turner pleaded guilty to criminal damage after the total amount of damage caused came to over £48,000.

Defending Andrew Taylor said Turner had a long history with substance misuse and was acting ‘erratic and in an unusual way’ at the time.

Mr Taylor said: ‘He tells me he needs to start rebuilding his life.’

Judge David Wynn Morgan said: ‘You had an addiction to Class A drugs and the offence was committed while you were under the influence of controlled drugs.’

Turner was sentenced to a total of 14 and a half months in prison.
