How do you do the distress hand signal?
From signals to secret codes, TikTok has encouraged several female-friendly trends to help them cope with all sorts of violence.
And prior to 'angel cut with layers', the distress hand signal went viral on TikTok for the same reason.
In 2021, this particular hand signal went viral on the social media platform after police rescued a 16-year-old girl using the gestures she made to seek help.
According to the Canadian Women’s Foundation, the gesture to show domestic violence can be made with one hand.
You need to face your palm forward with your thumb tucked in – and then, close your other fingers over the thumb.
This is universally called “The violence at home signal for help.”
If you are in immediate danger – call 999 and ask for the police.
If you can’t speak and are calling on a mobile press 55 to have your call transferred to the police.
