On August 1, 2022, Pelosi kicked off her high-profile Asia trip by going to Singapore, where she met with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
According to CNN, they discussed the cooperation between Singapore and the United States on several issues, including the climate crisis and economic development.
Pelosi is then expected to visit Taiwan, despite warnings from members of the Biden administration.

CNN notes that the visit is not on her public itinerary, but according to a senior Taiwanese government official and a US official, she is expected to stay in Taiwan overnight.
The visit would come as the tensions between the US and China grow and has since sparked fear that the country could retaliate.
Three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Thomas L. Friedman said that it would be "utterly reckless, dangerous and irresponsible," for Pelosi to visit Taiwan in a New York Times opinion piece.
"Nothing good will come of it. Taiwan will not be more secure or more prosperous as a result of this purely symbolic visit, and a lot of bad things could happen," Friedman wrote.

"These include a Chinese military response that could result in the U.S. being plunged into indirect conflicts with a nuclear-armed Russia and a nuclear-armed China at the same time."
"And if you think our European allies — who are facing an existential war with Russia over Ukraine — will join us if there is U.S. conflict with China over Taiwan, triggered by this unnecessary visit, you are badly misreading the world," he added.
At this time, it remains unclear when or if Pelosi will be making the trip to Taiwan.

On Tuesday, January 25, Nancy Pelosi announced she was running for her 18th full term in Congress.
Pelosi shared the announcement on Twitter, saying: "Our democracy is at risk because of assaults on the truth, the assault on the US capitol, and the state-by-state assault on voting rights.
"This election is crucial. Nothing less is at stake than our democracy."
She continued: "But as we say, we don't agonize, we organize. And that is why I am running for re-election to Congress."
