A million-pound mansion known as ‘Willy House’ for its phallic-shaped topiary is back on the market almost a year after it was put up for sale – yet failed to sell.

The property, in the village of Cross, Somerset, where Carry-On star Frankie Howerd lived for much of his life, has been turning heads for decades with its striking front garden lined with pieces of titillating topiary – leading local school children to dub it ‘Willy House’.

Overlooking the Mendip Hills the six-bed home – called The Yews – is on the market for £1m – £75,000 more than it was first listed in October 2021.

The 17th Century mansion has four spacious bedrooms on the first floor, another room in its ‘west wing’ which contains a living room and an en suite, and a detached cottage with bedroom, kitchenette and shower.

The property also boasts four-and-a-half acres of land and comes with a stable room, conservatory, potting shed and a tack room for the storage and maintenance of riding equipment.

It also boasts a glass garden room stretches into a large patio garden, with the rear hall offering up essential space for coats and boots, with the house having easy access to the stunning countryside.

UCL Linguistics lecturer Dr Beth Malory, who spotted the house online, laughed: ‘Interesting topiary.

‘Rightmove is a goldmine of weirdness!’

Estate agents Roderick Thomas, who are selling the house, said: ‘The well-arranged gardens include splendid yew trees which for manwwwwy years have been wonderful examples of topiary.

‘There are also walled courtyards, lots of parking areaw, lawns, flower and shrub beds and a vegetable garden.

‘The Yews is an exceptional property dating back to the 17th century and believed to have links with the nearby old coaching inn.

‘It’s a property with historic links, character and style and substantial assets plus further potential.
