Woman who believes she’s Madeleine McCann shares ‘earliest childhood memory’

A woman who has pushed for a DNA test to "prove she's Madeleine McCann " has described the first memory from her childhood – and people believe it could be "proof" of her claims.

Julia Wendell believes she is the girl who disappeared in 2007 during a family trip to Portugal at just four years old.

The 21-year-old went viral on social media after sharing supposed "evidence" that she is Madeleine – including having freckles in the same place and a speck in her eye.

But she also claims to have had difficulty accessing her birth certificate and has trouble remembering some parts of her childhood.

Howeve, in one of her videos on Instagram, the woman described the earliest memory she has of a childhood family holiday – which has some viewers "convinced" she's Madeleine.

In the video, which has been viewed over 887,000 times, she said that she remembers being at a bay where "children were trying to get turtles on their hands."

She also claims there were "white buildings" around where she was staying and there was a woman performing in a bar wearing a traditional dress.

Viewers took to the comments believing she could be describing Praia da Luz, Portugal – where Madeleine vanished from.

But others argued the account was "too detailed" to be an early childhood memory.

However, Julia said she wasn't sure if the place she remembers was Portugal or somewhere else – viewers asked her if she had asked her parents where the holiday was but she did not respond.

The 21-year-old was also questioned by followers about asking her parents for photos of herself when she was a child – but she claims they wouldn't show her.

"It was always 'I will show you later' or 'I will show you tomorrow'," she said.

Other Instagram users have told her she should have pushed her family for a DNA test before making claims that she is the missing daughter of Kate and Gerry McCann online.

One person penned: "You need to do a DNA test with your parents, then you will know if they are your parents or not and THEN you can contact the McCanns."

Another added: "Please do a home DNA kit with your parents. By trying to contact the McCanns you are potentially re-traumatising them.

"If you’re not her then they will have to grieve again. Don’t try and contact them just find another way!!!"
