World’s first cocaine bar changes location every month to trick the cops

An illegal cocaine bar on top of the Andes mountains has managed to stay open by constantly changing its location.

Route 36 is the world's first cocaine bar located in the city of La Paz, Bolivia – but in order to stay in operation it moved around once a month.

While Route 36 might be well-known, a simple google search isn't likely to lead you there – and even if it does, the bar will be in a totally different location in just a few weeks' time, LadBible reported.

The reason the bar moves so often is in part to avoid being shut down.

The illegal hangout also shifts location regularly so nearby businesses don't catch on and complain about the illegal operation and its clientele.

Some who have managed to find the bar report that the best way to get there is to get a cab, as taxi drivers in the city have all the insider knowledge.

According to one report in Stylist, "The best spot to find a cabbie in the know is outside one of the city’s party hostels – Loki or Wild Rover are good bets – but it seems that most drivers in the city centre will have an idea."

Others who have found the bar claimed that it's mostly full of tourists as Bolivians don't tend to spend a lot of time there – and going there will likely set you back a pretty penny as the substance sold there is extremely pure.

Cocaine is still illegal in Bolivia, but the coca plant from which the narcotic is extracted is common in the country and can be legally sold.

It is mostly used and consumed legally in food, tea, and medicine and after Colombia and Peru, Bolivia is the largest producer of the plant globally.

However, La Paz has now become a hub of cocaine tourism and thousands flock to the town to try to get their hands on the substance each year.

Cocaine is a Class A drug in the UK and it is illegal in many countries internationally – although in some countries it is legal for medical uses, or possession is legal in small amounts or for personal use.

In the UK last year, 840 deaths related to cocaine were registered.

Even when it's not fatal, long-term use of the addictive drug can cause heart damage, depression, and impotence.
