Young woman, 20, 'stabbed to death with metal spike by uncle then dumped "like rubbish" in honour killing' | The Sun

A YOUNG woman was stabbed to death with a metal spike then dumped "like rubbish" by her uncle in an honour killing, a court heard.

Mohammed Taroos Khan, 53, allegedly killed Somaiya Begum, 20, at her home in Bradford in June last year.

At the time, the student was subject to a court-mandated Forced Marriage Protection Order following attempts by her dad to force her to marry her cousin, it was said.

Jurors were told after using an 11cm-long 'Bradawl' tool — a sharpened metal woodwork implement – to kill his niece, Khan "bundled up" her body using a rug and string.

He then allegedly left her to "rot and decompose" on wasteland "like rubbish" before she was found 11 days later.

Somaiya's body was "infested with maggots" with the spike still embedded in her chest.

Prosecutor Jason Pitter KC said: "She had met a traumatic death following a violent attack at her home, the nature of which was demonstrated by the metal spike which was embedded in her."

Bradford Crown Court was told Khan has admitted perverting the course of justice by disposing of her body and destroying her phone, which was found in a nearby smouldering bin.

He was also seen on CCTV dragging an "apparently heavy item" from his car onto the wasteland, which prosecutors allege was Somaiya.

When shown the footage, Khan claimed he "had some garbage and had been dumping it".

Mr Pitter said: "In fact, that 'garbage', to use his word, was Somaiya."

Jurors were told Somaiya was living with her grandmother and another relative under the terms of a Forced Marriage Protection Order.

This was due to due to attempts by her father to force her to marry a cousin from Pakistan "by threat of violence", it was said.

The court heard Khan was subject to restraining order prohibiting him from attending the address that had been in place since 2016.

This was due to a conviction for punching his own daughter before holding a knife to her throat and threatening to "chop her up".

Mr Pitter said Khan denies murdering his niece and "it must follow that he is saying that someone or others are responsible for killing her".

The prosecutor said it may be his defence "advances issues in relation to the family's culture and religion which may have been the misguided justification to kill her".

He added: "We suppose in the context of the inappropriately named 'honour killing'.

"Whatever it was …. it was not honourable."
