Bake Off star speaks out after he escapes elimination by ‘skin of his teeth’

Great British Bake Off star Matty Edgell took to social media this morning to share an update after escaping elimination by “the skin of his teeth” this week.

Sharing a picture of his botanical week creation, he shared his thoughts with his 11,100 Instagram followers.

“That’s botanical week finished! (spoiler alert below),” he began.

“Through by the skin of my teeth! Not my finest hour but as ever I loved watching the fun we had in the tent this week.

“I think it’s safe to say I’ll be leaving those floral flavours alone for a while,” he added with a laughing emoji.

Matty’s followers took to the comments section following his candid post to send messages of support.

Keith wrote: “I was REALLY impressed with your buttercream roses Mr Edgell Sir. I struggled to even make one so for you to knock out ELEVEN in the time was fantastic. I thought it looked really classy.” (sic)

“I thought your little rose ‘soldiers’ looked lovely!” Abbi penned with a laughing emoji, “Well done mate.”

“I thought it looked lovely. So glad you got through,” Kingy added, while Des agreed: “I thought it looked great.”

Following criticism from the judges that her floral flavours didn’t come through on what was deemed to be a rather “stodgy” showstopper, Dana Conway was the latest contestant to be sent home this week.

Meanwhile, Josh Smalley was awarded Star Baker after he presented a well-received rhubarb, raspberry and hibiscus floral dessert.

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
