Come on Barbie let’s go party… again: Hollywood sequel is in the works after film pulls in a huge £1BILLION – and its success is all thanks to leading lady Margot Robbie

A Barbie sequel is already being worked on after the smash hit film has pulled in an astounding $1 billion.

The huge blockbuster, which stars Margot Robbie and Ryan ­Gosling has been so successful that according to insiders, talks have already been had about getting the second one into production.

A source told The Sun: ‘The crew who worked on the Barbie film have been contacted to discuss working on the follow-up.

‘It is very early days, but it’s become apparent that bosses want the same crew for the sequel as they did for the first.

‘Emails have been sent but firmer details have to be finalised.’

The adventure fantasy starring Margot Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as her go-to guy Ken.

The film, based off the beloved Mattel character was directed and co-written by Greta Gerwig with her husband Noah Baumbach, whilst Margot produced it.

The Australian star, made the movie come to life after she went to toy-maker Mattel for the rights in 2018.

In order to make the movie happen, the actress, 33, had to pitch the film during meetings with studio executives and assure them of its potential commercial success, even going as far as telling studios that the flick could make a billion dollars – a goal which evidently has been achieved.

In an interview with Collider she said: ‘I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?’

She also insisted that in order for the movie to succeed they needed director Greta Gerwig, 39, on board.

Greta, who is the first female director to take over $1billion also saw the potential in the film and spoke about how she would like to see more.

She told People magazine that she hoped her movie ‘is the launch of a world and a bunch of different Barbie movies’ before adding:

Margot was also responsible for the casting and chose the actors based on their ‘Barbie energy.’

The star-studded line-up includes Umbrella Academy Ritu Arya, BBC Call The Midwife’s Emerald Fennell, Bridgeton’s Nicola Coughlan as well as Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa and singer Dua Lipa.
