BBC Strictlys Claudia Winkleman had a proper go at judge over Layton Williams

Strictly: Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin perform Argentine Tango

Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman has revealed she had “a proper go” at show judge Craig Revel Horwood for failing to give Layton Williams a 10 for his Argentine Tango. Layton, 29, and his partner Nikita Kuzmin performed the Latin number three weeks ago, with Craig, 58, being the only judge not to score the pair a perfect 10.

The 51-year-old appeared on Wednesday’s episode of It Takes Two with co-host Tess Daly and told Fleur East that she wasn’t happy with Craig’s decision and told him what she thought. While speaking about the duo’s favourite routine, Claudia said: “I loved their Argentine Tango to Loreen. The purple suit, I loved it.

“So I thought that dance was phenomenal and that’s when I felt bad about it. On the results show I had a proper go at him and I was like, ‘What you doing?,’ and he says, ‘That’s what I love about a ten’. It’s only when he doesn’t write anything down, nothing.”

Layton and Nikita, 25, performed the sensual dance to Loreen’s Eurovision Song Contest hit song Tattoo and bowled over the audience and judges with the rendition. They received a standing ovation following the intense routine, with some of the judges also standing behind the panel clapping.

Motsi Mabuse gushed: “Guys… Speechless. That happens once in a lifetime to me. That was epic and iconic, it will never be done again like that.

“That was special and I mean special within the whole world in the Strictly Come Dancing type of competition. That was the bomb!” As the two men stood before the judges, head judge Shirley Ballas added: “This goes beyond perfect and pure art – it’s just breathtaking.

“Your footwork, your placement and your balance… I am lost in the Layton magic. That is exactly what you are. You are magic. You would pay good money to see that performance,” judge Anton Du Beke exclaimed to the duo. “It was extraordinary.”

Craig simply told the West End star and his professional partner the routine was: “A-ma-zing,” before the two headed upstairs to join Claudia on the balcony.

All four judges awarded Layton and Nikita 10s apart from Craig who opted to give them a 9, leaving viewers outraged by the decision.

Despite missing out on a perfect score, the pair still managed to top the leaderboard with an impressive overall score of 39 points.

Last Saturday night, the impressive duo finally managed to bag a 10 from Craig after bowling him over with their Quickstep during Musical’s week.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7.35pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
