Big Brother fans cringe at Farida’s ‘awkward’ trans questions for Hallie

Big Brother: Farida questions Hallie on trans relationships

In tonight’s Big Brother, Farida attempted to get to know Hallie a little better as they undertook the first of the night’s challenges, but her questions left some fans cringing.

The housemates were tasked to stay in bed for as long as possible in a test of endurance.

Whilst they were relaxing, Farida asked Hallie a series of questions that left Hallie and viewers feeling awkward.

Farida asked Hallie about her relationships, saying: “I know you said you’ve never been in one, but… Imagine you did, right? So you know the men that are attracted to you? Would they be classed as gay?”

To which Hallie snapped back: “I’m a woman”. Farida then said, “Yeah, so you’re a woman, but you’re a trans…” before Hallie once again interjected and said: “I don’t see them as gay. I see them as them liking a woman.

Hallie then went on to say: “I just think nowadays people don’t like putting labels on things. They just like what they like. But at the end of the day, I’m a woman. So if a guy was to get with me and be gay, that’s calling me a man. Do you know what I mean?”

Before Farida then asked whether she still had male organs and would she tell any future partners that she was trans.

Hallie told her: “Oh, yeah, 100%. That’s a big part of my life that’s first one of the first things I would mention and say because it’s like out of respect I’ll tell you and if you can’t love that part of me then you can’t love me. “

Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter to express their discomfort.

One viewer wrote: “Farida those questions to Hallie were so direct and personal. It’s like going up to someone asking “Are you gay?” her questions were way too personal to ask out loud like that. I don’t think she is very aware in how she behaves”

Another said: “Farida asking Hallie ( a transgender woman ) if men attracted to her are gay… For her to not know that could be offensive is wilful ignorance. To think she was one of my faves #BBUK”

And a third wrote: “Its good that Farida has tried to educate herself on Hallie’s identity but why exactly does she need to know whether she has male organs or about dating orientation?”

A fourth added: “Farida is being a bit…yikes about trans women and their relationships. I understand why she asked Hallie but it was just idk”

But not all viewers agreed, some felt that the questions needed to be asked.

One viewer posted: “Farida simply asked Hallie a question. Rather than just being ignorant and assuming, she wanted to be educated and asked. As frustrating as it is, you can’t be annoyed claiming you’re happy to answer questions and then unhappy at the questions posed.”

Whilst a second said: “Seeing a lot of people saying the conversation between Hallie and Farida was uncomfortable. It shouldn’t be. Asking people about themselves and understanding their perspective is the basis of being human. It should always be encouraged”

And a third commented: “Hallie handled that conversation with Farida so well. Farida asking questions to understand something she didn’t know about. So important that these conversations are broadcasted. We need more of this.”
