Venice Film Festival honoured Queen Elizabeth II following the news of her death, with the British national anthem played at the event.
On Thursday September 8, Buckingham Palace announced that the monarch had died at the age of 96.
The news was shared by broadcaster Huw Edwards on BBC News, with celebrities including Piers Morgan, Dame Helen Mirren – who played the Queen on screen – and Daniel Craig – who starred alongside her in a James Bond skit for the London 2012 Olympics – paying tribute.
Over the past few days, Venice Film Festival has played host to Hollywood stars including Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde, Ana de Armas and Hugh Jackman as they promote new films such as Don’t Worry Darling and the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde.
While the world reacted to the Queen’s death, screenings continued at the esteemed film festival, with Brad Pitt and Adrien Brody among those who arrived on day nine of the event in the Italian city.
Footage shared online has shown the British national anthem, God Save The Queen, being played across the festival grounds after her death was confirmed by the Palace.

Queen Elizabeth II dead: Key details
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died after 70 years on the throne, with her death announced by Buckingham Palace on September 8, 2022.
She died at the age of 96 surrounded by her family at her home in Balmoral, including her son and heir to the throne Charles, the Prince of Wales, and her grandsons, the Duke Of Cambridge, Prince William and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry.

Over in Canada, the Toronto International Film Festival also still went ahead, with tributes made at the event to the late Queen.
Cameron Bailey, the chief executive of TIFF, said in a statement: ‘We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her passing.
‘As we prepare to welcome Canadians and international guests to the festival, we know that many will be deeply affected by her death. We keep her legacy in our memory.’

The Bafta Tea Party which was due to take place in Los Angeles was cancelled, having been due to be held following a two-year hiatus.
The BBC Proms event which was scheduled to take place on Thursday evening was cancelled, while the 2022 Mercury Prize event was postponed, with leftover food from the event offered to a charity.
When the Palace announced the Queen’s death, the statement read: ‘The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
‘The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.’
A statement had been released earlier in the day revealing that the Queen was under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health.
