Dancing on Ice’s Vanessa Bauer breaks silence on Joey Essex romance for first time

Vanessa Bauer has opened up about her “special bond” with Dancing on Ice skating partner Joey Essex.

Over the past few months, Joey and 26 year old Vanessa are thought to have sparked up a romance with one another, with Joey even trying to plant a kiss on his skating partner on the ice.

The pair have been teamed up with one another since late last year and have skated their way to the final this weekend.

The upcoming final marks Vanessa’s fifth on Dancing on Ice, but she insists this one will be different as she’s with TOWIE star Joey, 32.

“This time I’ve got Joey with me,” she said, as per The Sun.

“Obviously we have a bond like I didn’t have with any of my other partners. It’s going to be special.”

Vanessa’s sweet comments about Joey come after the reality TV star opened up about his “painful” performance last week after he chose a song to dance to that paid tribute to his late mum.

Last week also marked what would have been Tina’s 60th birthday. Joey was only 10 years old when she died.

When asked what she would make of him doing well on the show, Joey said: “I feel like she would be very proud.

“She 100% would be very proud of me and she would have loved to have been there in the audience.”

He added that performing with his professional skating partner Vanessa to High by Lighthouse Family in memory of his mother was “extremely difficult” due to the “flooding of emotions”.

He said: “It still is very painful, It’s very raw and I don’t think I’ll ever fully properly get over that situation, I’ve definitely let go of something and released a lot of pressure after my documentary.”

Someone who also found it hard was his sister Frankie, who spoke about his moving performance paying homage to their mum in her OK! column.

“Joey did a tribute to her on Dancing on Ice and when they do the show, I think the plan’s already written in, but it was weird that the week they did personal songs was the same week as my mum’s 60th,” she wrote.

“Watching Joey’s performance was a lot. Luke was out on Sunday so I was watching the show on my own while crying. It was okay though. I watched it then got an early night.”

Catch the Dancing on Ice final tomorrow night, Sunday 12 March, at 6:30pm on ITV and ITVX.
