Reports of the spin-off come with the return of showrunner Russell T. Davies, who stepped down from the series 12 years ago, and is no stranger to expanding the Doctor Who universe.

During his last stint on the popular science-fiction show, Russell created spin-off alien hunter show Torchwood, which ran for four seasons from 2006 until 2011.

While he also created The Sarah Jane Adventures in 2007, which is described as the ‘child-friendly’ version of the show and also ran until 2011.

And now it appears he could have even more scope for expanding the show’s portfolio, following a reported deal between the BBC and Disney+.
