Dwayne Johnson, 50, is now reportedly worth $800million (£660million) but as a teen found himself “broke as hell” and resorted to shoplifting Snickers bars. Now the star returned to clear out the store he used to steal from “the right way” and had a bonus surprise for the star-struck customers inside.

Appearing on Instagram on Monday, the Black Adam actor continued his Good Samaritan streak he started over Thanksgiving when he gifted $18,000 (£14,000) to a member of his production crew.

Dwayne, who spent most of his childhood in Hawaii, appeared in front of a 7-11 saying: “I’ve spent decades getting ready to do what I’m going to do now.”

He explained in the caption that when he was 14, for almost a year he stole a king-sized Snickers bar from the store every single day because he couldn’t afford to buy them.

The former wrestler was, in his words, “broke as hell”, and used these chocolates as his “pre-workout” before heading to the gym.

Although the theft weighed heavy on his mind, Dwayne also recalled a kind soul who helped him get through his toughest years on the tropical island.

He wrote: “The same clerk was there every day and always just turned her head and never busted me.”

However, he has now “finally exorcised this damn chocolate demon that’s been gnawing at me for decades.”

Walking into the 7-11, Dwayne grabbed a paper bag and cleared out every Snickers bar in the store, leaving just empty shelves behind.

He started a polite conversation with the cashier, BK, before placing an avalanche of chocolate bars on the counter and happily giggling to himself.

He joked: “BK’s like ‘f**k’!”

Dwayne explained that he was buying all of the Snickers to right the wrong he did decades ago, while the cashier desperately tried to scan all the items.

The actor laughed: “BK’s like ‘Listen, I’m trying to count all this sh*t, I don’t need to hear your stories. Go tell Oprah’.”

Dwayne noticed the growing crowd of shocked onlookers inside the store, and gestured for them to come forward saying: “What are you guys getting? I’ve got it.”

In total, Dwayne’s chocolate escapade, as well as footing the bill for everyone in the store, came to $298 (£248) which he paid and graciously tipped all of the workers too.

The actor left the chocolates on the counter, saying: “I’m going to leave these here. If somebody looks like they’re stealing Snickers, give them these so they don’t steal it.”

He headed out into the Hawaiian sunshine saying it felt “really really good” to have repaid the goodwill shown to him when he was so much younger.

In his caption the multimillionaire admitted the situation “seems very silly”, but it was a burden that weighed on his mind for decades and one he was reminded of “every time I come back home to Hawaii”.

He wrote: “I always knew I needed to go in and clean out every Snickers bar they had – the right way.

“And as a bonus it was a lot of fun to take care of everybody who walked into 7-11 while I was there.

“Least I could do considering all the sh*t I used to steal from here.

“We can’t change the past and some of the dumb stuff we may have done, but every once in a while we can add a little redeeming grace note to that situation — and maybe put a big smile on some stranger’s faces.”
