Elvis Presley's lion claw necklace to be auctioned and fetch $500k

Elvis Presley’s lion claw gold necklace featuring diamonds and rubies is expected to fetch $500K at auction 50 years after he wore it on stage

The legendary lion claw necklace worn by Elvis Presley is set to hit the auction block.

The diamond and ruby encrusted jewelry – referred to as the ‘Holy Grail’ of Elvis memorabilia – has been on display for years at the Elvis Presley Museum and is now going up for sale at the Gotta Have Rock and Roll online auction, which runs November 22 through December 15.

The late King of Rock & Roll – whose ex wife Priscilla Presley was recently presented with the Legacy Award – was often seen sporting the gold necklace in his later years, both on and off stage, per the auction house.

A famous photo shows Elvis with the bling around his neck while celebrating his daughter Lisa Marie’s 5th birthday alongside Priscilla, as seen on the auction’s website.

Experts predict it could fetch a staggering $500,000 or even more.

In another famous snap, Elvis met legendary boxer Muhammad Ali during the fighter’s prime with the necklace proudly displayed.

The icon also wore it several times during his post-Priscilla relationship with Linda Thompson, according to Gotta Have Rock and Roll.

Between its stay at the Elvis Presley Museum and going up for auction, the necklace was given to Jimmy Velvet, who has been called ‘The Godfather of memorabilia,’ per the site.

Velvet once described the Elvis Lion Claw as the most Iconic piece of jewelry ever worn by Elvis.

The Jailhouse Rock singer was said to have rocked it during 30 concerts.

Back in 2014, a bejeweled lion’s-head pendant that Elvis wore during his 1970 White House meeting with President Nixon fetched $82,500.

The pendant, which Elvis had designed in 1969, was sold at the first-ever Auction at Graceland in Memphis.

The cost of the pendant surpassed that of a maroon-and-silver 1977 Cadillac Seville, which was the final car Elvis bought for his personal use. The car was sold for $81,250, $1,250 less than the pendant.

The auction news comes after Priscilla was honored with a Legacy Award at the Victoria’s Voice Foundation gala that raised funds to combat the opioid overdose crisis.

The 78-year-old ex-wife of late rock legend – who died from cardiac arrest after years of opiate abuse – was presented with the award during the gala held on November 11 at a private estate in Palm Island, Florida, according to a press release provided on Tuesday by the foundation.

‘Throughout my life I have seen firsthand how drugs devastate families. This award inspires me to continue advocating for those impacted by addiction and who live every day in fear that their loved ones will be taken from them,’ Priscilla said.

‘I am incredibly moved by how David and Jackie have turned their painful loss into a force for good and giving back. I salute everyone involved with Victoria’s Voice and I share this award with all of you,’ Priscilla added.

Priscilla attended the gala with her son Navarone Garibaldi Garcia, 36, who is the half-brother of the late Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January of cardiac arrest at age 54 after dealing with substance abuse for years, including getting addicted in 2008 to opioids.

Navarone, who is the lead singer and guitarist of Los Angeles-based rock band Them Guns, is Priscilla’s son with her former longtime partner Marco Garibaldi.

Priscilla’s son started using heroin as a teenager and later became addicted to the synthetic opioid fentanyl before getting clean in 2020.

Navarone got married in 2022 to Elisa Achilli in her home country of Switzerland.

Priscilla at age 14 met a 24-year-old Elvis in Germany while he was serving in the military and they got married in May 1967 at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.

Lisa Marie was born exactly nine months after their wedding on February 1, 1968.
