Emma Willis addresses ruining husband Matt’s romantic proposal ‘Don’t you f*****g dare’

Emma Willis recalls thinking Matt was breaking up with her

The Voice host Emma Willis, 44, and Matt Willis, 37, tied the knot in 2008 and they now share three children together, but ahead of becoming husband and wife, the presenter revealed why their proposal didn’t quite go to plan. The former Big Brother host said she was embarrassed about her spouse getting down on one knee in front of tourists in Venice.

Opening up about the moment with Keith Lemon, the latter asked if former Busted star Matt proposed in the traditional way and got down on one knee.

In response to this, Emma said she had swiftly told Matt to get up when she realised what he was doing.

“I stopped him,” she admitted.

“He has taken me to Venice for my birthday and he went all weird, he stopped talking to me for about a day.

“I thought maybe he had regretted taking me away and was probably going to break up with me and then I remember thinking, ‘I wonder if there is something more to this’.”

She added on Shopping With Keith Lemon: “Anyway, we walked up to the Rialto Bridge and he pulled this box out of his pocket and he went to go down and I just looked at him in the eye and said, ‘Don’t you f*****g dare’.”

Elaborating on her reasons why, she went on to say: “Because it’s full of tourists! I felt a bit silly.”

Despite the awkward interruption, Emma accepted Matt’s proposal and the pair went on to tie the knot at Rushton Hall, Northamptonshire 12 years ago.

Two years later, the pair welcomed their first child together; a daughter named Isabelle, now 11.

The couple also share nine-year-old son Ace and Trixie, four together.

Following the birth of her youngest daughter, Emma confirmed she wasn’t having any more children.

She said at the time on Loose Women: “She has just slot in but I know this is my last, I’m taking every single little bit in because I know I won’t do it again.”

In recent weeks, Emma has been giving fans an insight into her family walks during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week, she shared a snap of her husband and three children walking through muddy puddles at a park.

In view of her 1.7 million followers, she wrote: “Favourite time of the day.”

Away from her family life, Emma is back on screens with the latest series of The Voice UK.

The current season was filmed during the pandemic, meaning social distancing rules were in place.

Following the safety advice, Emma is seen keeping a two-metre distance from the contestants and their loved ones backstage.

Speaking of the change, the presenter recently said: “I just kept going ‘virtual hugs’ but I’m sure in the gallery they’re probably going, ‘Stop bl**dy saying virtual hugs’.

“I just feel really bad and you can feel the disappointment in some people.”

The Voice continues tonight at 8.30pm on ITV.
