Fergie seen for first time after Queen’s death as she views tributes with Prince Andrew

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has been seen in public for the first time following the death of the Queen on Thursday, 8 September.

Fergie, as she's known, was seen looking at floral tributes left to the late Monarch outside Windsor Castle with her ex-husband Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, with both looking solemn and dressed in black.

Sarah, 62, is known to have a close relationship with her former husband Prince Andrew, also 62, with whom she shares two daughters, Princesses Beatrice, 34, and Eugenie, 32, and she and Andrew still live together in the Royal Lodge on the Windsor Estate.

As an ex-member of the royal family, Fergie was not present at the Balmoral walkabout with her ex-husband, nor did she attend the funeral procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall on Tuesday, however she is expected to attend the Queen's funeral on Monday.

Fergie and Andrew were married in 1986 before announcing plans to separate in 1992 and officially divorcing in 1996, however she's since described them as "the happiest divorced couple in the world" and said that they "support each other like pillars of strengths".

Fergie has said the Queen was “the most incredible mother-in-law and friend” to her and she would miss her “more than words can express” in her tribute after the late monarch’s death..

“I am heartbroken by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen,” she tweeted.

“She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy: the most fantastic example of duty and service and steadfastness, and a constant steadying presence as our head of state for more than 70 years.

“She has given her whole life selflessly to the people of the UK and the Commonwealth.

“To me, she was the most incredible mother-in-law and friend. I will always be grateful to her for the generosity she showed me in remaining close to me even after my divorce.

“I will miss her more than words can express.”

Prince Andrew has been present at many of the ceremonies after the death of his mother, despite being stripped of his HRH status and all his honorary military roles.
