Gemma Arterton reveals she welcomed her first child in December

Gemma Arterton has announced the arrival of her first child with her husband Rory Keenan.

The actress, 37, welcomed her baby boy back in December and revealed the happy news on Zoe Ball's Radio 2 Breakfast show on Wednesday.

The new mum revealed: "We are very very happy, he was born just before Christmas. A little Christmas elf."

Gemma confirmed she was pregnant in November, displaying her blossoming baby bump for the first time at the Raindance Film Festival awards.

The Quantum of Solace star flaunted her pregnant figure at the time in a black form-fitting high-waisted maxi skirt and a matching shirt.

Gemma and her husband Rory have welcomed their son, three years after getting married.

The couple wed in a secret ceremony in a secret ceremony in County Wicklow in September 2019.

Gemma previously spoke about not being sure on having children in interviews.

She told The Times in 2013: “I don't think you can ever plan the right, exact time.

“I don't feel ready for kids because I want to know that I can come back and still be valuable to the industry.

“That's only going to happen when I feel a little bit more accomplished…or at least when I've accomplished something of which I'm proud.”

In 2018, Gemma told the Telegraph: “I’m a neurotic person and a worrier anyway, and I think, ‘Oh God, when I have kids am I still going to be able to do all this?’

“When we were kids my mum and my grandmother didn’t work, and I think that made them sad. That has influenced me.”

Gemma appeared on Zoe Ball’s show to discuss her new Sky series Funny Woman, which she described as her second “baby”, after getting the project off of the ground.

The 1960s-set sitcom follows a beauty queen on the quest for TV fame and is based on the novel by Nick Hornby.

Speaking about Funny Woman, Gemma said: “It’s been such a passion project of mine for, well, five or six years.

“When it does finally come out, it sort of feels like, it is your baby, you’ve nurtured it for so long.”

Gemma rose to fame after being selected out of thousands to star opposite Daniel Craig in his second James Bond film, released back in 2008.

The actress has since built up an impressive acting resume, securing several roles in TV and film.
