Royal insiders have claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would not reject an invitation to spend Christmas at Sandringham, but that they are yet to receive one.
Traditionally, members of the royal family gather at Sandringham House in Norfolk for Christmas, but since relocating to America, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not attended a Royal Christmas since 2018.
This is despite the couple having received invitations for the majority of those since, with the exception of those which took place during Covid lockdowns.
And while the relationship between Harry and his family remains rather strained, he is reportedly back on speaking terms with his father King Charles, who is said to be hopeful of building a relationship with his grandchildren.
These reports have led to speculation that the Sussex family could return to Sandringham this year, with a royal insider telling The Times: "I can't imagine the Sussexes would decline an invitation to spend time with His Majesty.
"As of yet, there have not been any invitations for the holidays."
OK! have contacted representatives for Buckingham Palace and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.
It comes after a source revealed to OK! that Christmas plans are causing some tension between Harry and Meghan, with Harry missing spending the festive season with his relatives.
In their Netflix documentary, Harry And Meghan, Harry admitted he missed “the weird family gatherings when we’re all brought together under one roof for certain times of the year”.
And our source said: “Harry always enjoyed large family Christmases. It’s a shame that his children will miss out on the fun.
"He used to say that nobody could celebrate Christmas like the Windsors. He experienced that festive togetherness for his entire life until his move to America and he really misses it.
"The Christmas plans are causing a bit of tension because he’s fed up with being away from everyone during key milestones."
The source added: "Although they haven’t visited Sandringham since 2018, an invitation has been extended to them in previous years, bar the Covid years.
"It was made clear to them that the door is always open at big royal family occasions for the children’s sake."
And relationship expert Louella Alderson, added: "Harry has compromised a lot for Meghan in the past few years, so he may feel like spending Christmas in the UK is a small request in comparison to what he has given up.
"If Meghan is unable or unwilling to compromise, it could lead to tension between them. It’s important for them both to view their Christmas plans from each other’s perspective and find a solution that makes them both happy."
