Richard Gere has been spotted protesting with his fellow actors as part of the ongoing showbusiness strikes in New York and Los Angeles.

The Pretty Woman star was one of thousands who lined the streets of the Big Apple as part of the SAG-AFTRA strike event.

Surrounded by fellow protesters, the 73-year-old was holding up a sign which read: “Writers Guild of America East Stands With SAG-AFTRA”.

He was dressed casually in a relaxed grey T-shirt, jeans, trainers, as well as a pair of sunglasses.

This particular protest which attracted a very large crowd took place outside of the Warner Bros building in New York.

The SAG-AFTRA strike first began on July 14 with the WGA strike, which sees writers protestings, standing up for their rights since early May.

This is the first time in the US since 1980 that actors have initiated a labour dispute.

An even bigger milestone in history is the fact this is the first time in more than six decades that actors and writers have striked at the same time.

The protests have seen both ordinary people as well as some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Gere, stand in solidarity for the cause.

Whether through joining the picket lines in Los Angeles and or New York, making donations, handing out water bottles or issuing statements, people have been showing their support in all kinds of ways.

Some of the big names have included Susan Sarandon, Mandy Moore, America Ferrera, Josh Gad and Jason Sudeikis, just to name a few.

The strikes have also caused many shows to be delayed with production postponed until the protests come to an end.

Among the biggest shows affected are NCIS, Law and Order, Stranger Things and The Last of Us.

While many have been given the green light, cast and crew are not going back to work because of the strikes.

So only time will tell when these series will grace the small screen again.
