I’m A Celebrity star ‘surprised’ by Nigel Farage and thought he would win show

Nigel Farage receives warm welcome after leaving camp

Jake Quickenden has shared that he thought ex-politician Nigel Farage would win I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! on Sunday evening. The former UKIP leader came in third place whilst Sam Thompson was crowned King of the Jungle.

Speaking exclusively with Express.co.uk, Jake spoke about how he watches the ITV show every single year since he appeared as a contestant in 2014. He was the runner-up in his series to racer Carl Fogarty.

Jake has said that the top four remaining campmates were all worthy contenders to be crowned champion this year, but admitted that Nigel in particular “surprised him”.

“I think any of the last four could have won. I mean, I think Tony did great going in there late,” Jake started. “But Sam was just positive and people like to see positivity. I’m really happy for him. I know that he will be buzzing.

“And I was surprised with Nigel. I don’t agree with a lot of things he says but I just watch it as an I’m A Celebrity viewer. And I kind of try and forget about everything else that goes on in the outside world.

“And I just say like, it’s nice to try and give somebody a chance in the jungle as a jungle participant. And as far as a jungle contestant again, he got stuck in and did well in the trials.”

Speaking about Grace Dent and Jamie-Lynn Spears leaving the camp early on medical grounds, he said: “I think they were quite shocked at how hard it actually is. Obviously, people only see an hour on the TV, but you’re in there 24 hours and this year they had a horrendous time with rain.

“And honestly the one time that I felt down in there is when it was p**sing down. My sleeping bag was wet. And I was like – this is actually awful. Like, I’m knackered and I’m hungry.”

Jake has recently teamed up with YouTube Shorts to celebrate diverse hobbies. Research by YouGov shows over two thirds (66%) of 16-24 year olds say that watching hobbies on social media inspires them to take one up.

Pet Portraits has been identified as a popular hobby in the UK this year as more people are turning to YouTube for inspiration. Jake hosted a masterclass on December 12 alongside YouTube Shorts creator and artist Emily Rose to find out more about the trend.

Speaking about the campaign, Jake said: “It’s fascinating to see how young people are engaging with new hobbies and pastimes online. Whether you’re into pet portraits, pickleball or pressure washing, on YouTube Shorts you can find that someone or something that inspires you and stokes your curiosity, allowing you to discover incredible new pastimes that you may never have come across before.

“As we head into the new year and the time for resolutions, the research shows that you may be more likely to stick with your resolution if you document it online. So if you’re aiming to learn that instrument you’ve always talked about playing, or want to train for that marathon, why not start putting your efforts online – it might just keep the motivation going!”
