Inside Zara McDermott’s relationship with boyfriend Sam Thompson

Zara McDermott attempts to prank Sam Thompson

Love Island star Zara McDermott and her fellow reality TV star beau Sam Thompson are head over heels in love – but, their romance has previously been turbulent following a cheating scandal and public scenes begging for forgiveness.

Reality star Sam exclusively told Express.co.uk that he realised he was in love with her after seeing how tender and warm-hearted she was with his mum.

According to Sam, the pair first met on Instagram after the Love Island 2018 contestant “slid into his DMs” – and he ended up being extremely “glad” she did.

They made it official in 2019 and Zara ended up regularly appearing on Sam’s show Made in Chelsea, both separately and together with her beau.

The relationship heated up so much that, during a recorded chat with Celebs Go Dating expert Paul Carrick Brunson, Sam vowed he would seal the deal and “put a ring on it”.

However, disaster struck in late 2020, after Zara came clean about cheating on Sam while a contestant on Celebrity X Factor.

It looked as if their romance might be over for good after Zara began posting a series of messages begging her beau to give her another chance.

First coming clean on Instagram to almost two million followers, the reality star exclaimed: “A huge mistake I made a year ago has recently come to light and I want to face this head-on.

“I don’t condone being unfaithful and I made a huge mistake at a time in my life where I was hugely selfish and immature. I believe I have learnt so much from my mistake.

“I want to apologise to my Sam for everything I have put him through, for the pain, the embarrassment, the anger and the hurt,” she continued.

“All I want to do is make this right and I think the least he deserves is me being honest with myself and all of you. I love you Sam. Forever x.”

She later addressed Sam personally, wishing she could “turn back the clock”, while fans saw dramatic scenes aired onscreen after their break-up – and make-up – became reality TV entertainment for Made in Chelsea.

The pair got together in a park to discuss the issue, and Zara begged him to take her back.

Later on Instagram, she posted a message addressed “TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE”, gushing: “There aren’t enough words to describe how I feel about you. You are my favourite person, my truest love.”

She published a video montage of the pair’s memories, from beach holidays abroad to glamorous nights out and tender alone time, and vowed: “I want to create a million more memories like these throughout the rest of my life… with you.

“I am sorry our journey hasn’t been the easiest, and I am forever wishing I could find a way to turn back the clock. Remember… you are everything. You are my moon and all my stars and everything in between. I miss you. I love you more and more every day.”

To the soundtrack of “Over and Over Again” by Nathan Sykes, Zara concluded: “I promise I will love you over and over again.”

The couple are still together now, more than four years on from when they first met, and Sam has vowed to “be there” to support his girlfriend as she prepares for her Strictly debut.
