Paul O'Grady's husband Andre Portasio has shared a heartfelt tribute on the day that would have been their sixth wedding anniversary, five months after the star's death.

Comedian Paul who was also known for his drag queen persona Lily Savage, died "unexpectedly but peacefully" at the age of 67 on 29 March, which was confirmed by Andre at the time.

On Saturday (5 August), Andre, 42, took to Instagram to share a number of photos from their low-key wedding day in 2017.

One image showed a black and white snap as the newlyweds cut their three tier cake, two others showed the couple beaming next to each other, Paul in a grey suit and Andre in a navy blue suit.

The fourth and final snap was a close-up of their wedding cake which had a chocolate sign that read "POG & AP."

To accompany the photos, the widower wrote a touching and emotional caption on what would have been a day of celebrations.

He said: "Today marks a bittersweet moment as I celebrate what would have been our 6th wedding anniversary without my beloved @paulogrady by my side. It's been five months since he passed away, leaving a massive void that words can hardly describe. Yet, as I reflect on the 18 beautiful years we spent together, I cherish the memories that brought immense happiness into my life.

"Paul was my rock, my confidant, and my partner in every adventure. Our journey together was nothing short of extraordinary. He taught me the true meaning of love, and I am forever grateful for the precious time we had together.

"Today, I honour his memory by cherishing the love we shared and the legacy he left behind. Our journey together may have faced an untimely ending, but the impact he had on my life will remain eternal.

"I take this opportunity to thank my friends, my family and the public who have been a pillar of support during this trying time. Your compassion and understanding have made this period a little less daunting.

"Here's to you, Paul, my forever partner, and to the 6 years of marriage that shaped the happiest time of my life. Until we meet again…."

Announcing the star's death earlier this year, Andre said in his statement: "It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.

"We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.

"He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

"I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years."

During his career, he hosted The Paul O’Grady Show, Blind Date and Blankety Blank, as well as ITV’s multi-award-winning For The Love Of Dogs.

He also hosted ITV celebrity game show, Paul O’Grady’s Saturday Night Line Up. Paul took over the reins from Blind Date’s long-running presenter and his close friend Cilla Black, who died in 2015, as he hosted the Channel 5 reboot of the show in 2017.

Last year, he was joined by the Queen Consort in a special one-off episode of For The Love Of Dogs to mark 160 years of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, an organisation for which he was an ambassador.
