Finally talking
Jeremy Renner nearly lost his life in a now-infamous snow plow accident on New Year’s Day, but he has no regrets. In fact, even after suffering more than 30 broken bones and undergoing intense physical therapy and rehab, he’d put himself in harm’s way all over again. The “Avengers” actor was crushed by a 14,000-pound snow plow while helping out his nephew, who was stuck in the Lake Tahoe, Nevada, snow following a storm. There’s a belief that the machine malfunctioned. “I’d do it again. ‘Cause [the snow plow] was going right at my nephew,” Jeremy says on “Jeremy Renner: The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph,” which airs on April 6 on ABC. Asked if he remembers the pain, he said, “Oh, all of it. I was awake through every moment.” He later added, “I’ve lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience, but I’ve been refueled and refilled with love and titanium.” Jeremy did say he sees himself a little differently these days. “I see a lucky man,” he smiled.

School shooting reactions
On March 27, three children and three adults were shot dead at a Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee. The 28-year-old assailant, who was armed with two assault-style rifles and a handgun, was killed by police. On the heels of yet another fatal school shooting, many in entertainment reacted with sadness and rage on social media. Jason Aldean argued that “tactically trained veterans” should monitor schools. Jamie Lee Curtis argued for “common sense gun legislation.” Halle Berry was “angry, completely heartbroken” and said her daughter was “scared to death!” Kevin Bacon may have summed it up best, writing, “We don’t have to live this way. Our kids don’t have to live this way.”

Hacking trial
Prince Harry was back in London the week of March 27 for High Court hearings in his case against British publisher Associated Newspapers Ltd. According to the Duke of Sussex’s witness statement in the case, the royal family kept important information from him about his phone allegedly being hacked by News of the World in 2005. Harry said he believes he and his brother, Prince William, were intentionally kept in the dark about the hacking because of his family’s policy of avoiding controversy. “The Institution was without a doubt withholding information from me for a long time about NGN’s phone hacking and that has only become clear in recent years as I have pursued my own claim with different legal advice and representation,” Harry wrote, as reported by “Entertainment Tonight.” “The Institution had a strict ‘no comment’ policy which meant that even the worst or most suspicious articles were often never brought to my attention,” he shared elsewhere in the document. According to his statement, Harry didn’t discover how much of his privacy had really been breached until after he stepped down as a senior working royal in 2020. Harry’s privacy breach allegations are part of a larger case against the publisher that also involves similar claims made by Elton John and husband David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley and Sadie Frost, among other celebrities. Associated Newspapers has so far denied any wrongdoing, the BBC reported on March 28.

Runs in the family
Like father, like daughter. Kaya Stewart, the daughter of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Dave Stewart, auditioned on “American Idol” (her episode aired in March 2023) and she killed it. Her father, best known for his work as one-half of the Eurythmics, accompanied his daughter on guitar as she sang an original song called “This Tattoo.” Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan sent her on to Hollywood. Katy predicted big things for Kaya. (Fun fact: The Eurythmics were in the same Hall of Fame class as Lionel.)
Cancer diagnosis
Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell — the sister of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” star Alana Thompson and the daughter of “Mama June” Shannon — was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma at 28 in January 2023, TMZ reported on March 30. A family source told the webloid that Anna was experiencing stomach aches, which led doctors to do testing that discovered the cancer in her liver, kidney and lung. According to TMZ, Anna underwent her first round of chemotherapy in February. Sister Alana later confirmed the news on social media.
PDA-filled date
The heart wants what it wants? Selena Gomez was seemingly spotted on a date with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik on March 23. The alleged outing was made public when a TikTok user posted a screengrab of a WhatsApp message exchange she had with a friend who works as a restaurant hostess at a New York City eatery frequented by celebrities. “Tell me how Selena Gomez and Zayn just walked into [my restaurant] hand in hand making out and I seated them,” the hostess wrote. The hostess said the duo showed up during peek dinnertime and stayed for two hours, all while seated in the middle of the restaurant. Coincidentally, Selena had dinner with Zayn’s assistant just days before the allegedly PDA-filled date.
Secret baby news
Dad times two. On March 27, “Lord of the Rings” trilogy star Elijah Wood revealed, for the first time publicly, that he and longtime partner Mette-Marie Kongsved secretly welcomed their second child, a daughter, in 2022. The news came out in an interview with the Wall Street Journal in which the “Yellowjackets” actor was asked how he starts his day. “We’ve got a 3-year-old son and a 14-month-old daughter, and she wakes us up pretty early,” he said, going on to share how much he likes getting up early and describe what they usually eat for breakfast (“Oatmeal with various spices, peanut butter and fruit — banana, apples, blackberries. I also really like overnight oats or muesli with yogurt, and I sometimes eat that with them,” he said.)
Debut with her dude
She got the man. Country singer and former “One Tree Hill” actress Jana Kramer and boyfriend Allan Russell — a Scottish pro soccer play who’s now a coach for Britain’s Norwich City FC — made their red carpet debut as a couple at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles on March 27, two months after they made their relationship Instagram official.
