Kate Middleton has stunned passengers as she was spotted on board a recent commercial flight travelling to Balmoral, where she was seated in economy class for the duration of the trip.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 40, was making the short trip to Balmoral, Scotland on Sunday, August 21, alongside two of her children, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four.

Prince William, 40, and their eldest child, Prince George, nine, were said to have travelled separately.

The down to earth couple, could easily have flown to the destination by private jet or helicopter, so to see them embarking on an economy flight proved to be quite the surprise for their fellow passengers.

One shocked member of the public even shared a video on TikTok of Kate disembarking the plane.

The user said: "On a flight to Scotland, Kate Middleton, both kids, nanny and security 2 rows in front of me. Could get a private jet or helicopter but keeping it simple, flying economy."

"She even got up halfway through the flight to get her daughter's iPad. And yes she was stunning, even gave me a smile while looking back at row behind her to talk to her son," they went on.

"No one on board took any photos or videos. Just a mum taking her children on holiday to see grandmother, but there was a buzz on board.”

Seeing the senior members of the royal family travel via a more economical mode of transport has been welcomed by many fans, after the royal family has faced criticism over the financial and environmental impact of their trips around the world in recent months.

Prince William and Kate themselves faced a huge backlash after their Caribbean tour was revealed as the most expensive royal trip of the financial year, with the eight day trip alone said to have cost around £226,000.

Dressed down for the occasion, Kate still maintained her chic sense of style as she opted for a midi skirt, khaki blazer and cream shoulder bag for the brief journey.

Charlotte meanwhile was spotted wearing a floral dress, while little bother Louis opted for a smart pair of navy shorts and a blue shirt.

The latest visit by the royals comes as The Queen herself enjoys her annual Summer break in the Scottish Highlands.

The long reigning monarch traditionally spends the Summer at her Scottish retreat in Balmoral, where she is joined by other members of the Royal Family.

The trip also comes just days before the senior royals relocate from their home at Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor’s Home Park.

The move is intended to give the children a little more freedom and privacy as they start a new school year in September.

A royal source said: "This is very much a decision that two parents have made to give their children the 'most normal' start possible.

"Kensington Palace can be a little bit of a fishbowl.

"They wanted to be able to give George, Charlotte and Louis a bit more freedom than they have living in central London.

"It's very much a decision that's been led by the kids."

The couple will however, still retain their residence at Kensington Palace's Apartment 1A, and they will also keep their Norfolk country mansion Anmer Hall.
