King Charles close cousin who was adored by the Queen celebrates milestone

The late Queen was surrounded by close friends and confidants her entire life and it is fair to say that their love and support was crucial to her historic reign.

While the monarch is sadly no longer with us, she did have several loved ones who were frequently seen at her side, including her niece Lady Sarah Chatto.

Princess Margaret's daughter was said to be "adored" by her aunt as she would spend huge amounts of time at Buckingham Palace as a child and was the only member of the Royal Family who would be invited to join the monarch at her favourite Scottish retreat, Craigowan Lodge.

But the late Queen was not the only royal with whom Lady Sarah shared a close bond with as she also has a tight-knit friendship with her cousin, King Charles thanks to their many shared interests.

Lady Sarah Frances Elizabeth Chatto was born at Kensington Palace on May 1, 1964 and was the second child of Princess Margaret and her husband Antony Armstrong-Jones, the Earl and Countess of Snowdon.

She married Daniel Chatto on July 14, 1994 at St Stephen’s, Walbrook in London and the couple share two sons, Samuel David Benedict Chatto (b. 1996) and Arthur Robert Nathaniel Chatto (b. 1999).

The late Queen was said to have "adored" Sarah, and used to allow her niece to accompany her to her favourite hideaway, Craigowan Lodge, in Aberdeenshire.

Of all her cousins, it is King Charles who Sarah is said to remain closest to. The pair have reportedly enjoyed painting together at Balmoral over the years and has played two key roles in her cousin's life. As well as being a chief bridesmaid at Charles' wedding to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, she also serves as godmother to Prince Harry.

Sarah's popularity within the Royal Family is clear to see as she was also selected to act as a godmother to Prince Edward's daughter Lady Louise Windsor and to the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester's daughter Lady Rose Gilman.

Former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond echoed the admiration for Lady Sarah and told OK! "I've always liked Lady Sarah Chatto, I think she has just got on with her life with very little fuss and not too much bother. She's had a secure and and loving marriage with Daniel and the late Queen did adore her.

"The Queen loved Princess Margaret hugely and was obviously so saddened by her early loss but remained very close with Sarah her whole life.

"They used to go to Craigowan Lodge in Balmoral and spend time together there whenever they could. I think she also has a very close relationship with Charles thanks to their shared passions for painting and walking. They do sit down together whenever they can, it doesn't happen all the time but they have a very close relationship."

Lady Sarah Chatto attended Bedales boarding school in Hampshire and grew her passion and talent for art. Ever since 1995, Sarah has displayed her art at The Redfern Gallery in London under the name Sarah Armstrong-Jones.

At the start of 2022, King Charles also saw 79 of his watercolours exhibited at The Garrison Chapel in Chelsea. The-then Prince of Wales spoke of his hobby on a display panel and said that painting "refreshes parts of the soul which other activities can’t reach".

He added: "You become increasingly aware of things that may have escaped your attention previously – the quality of light and shade, of tone and texture and of the shape of buildings. It all requires the most intense concentration and consequently is one of the most relaxing and therapeutic exercises I know.

"In fact, in my case, I find it transports me into another dimension which, quite literally, refreshes parts of the soul which other activities can’t reach. I took up painting entirely because I found photography less than satisfying."
