Les Dennis addresses why his first marriage ‘fell apart’ – ‘I have regrets’

Strictly Come Dancing’s Les Dennis has claimed that the collapse of his first marriage to Lynne Webster was due to him “not grieving” for his parents.

The 69-year old, who has been married three times, reflected on what led to their divorce during an appearance on Where There’s A Will, There’s a Wake podcast.

Les said: “I think my first marriage fell apart because I didn’t take stock. When my mum died I went on stage.

“When my dad died, I was in Bournemouth and didn’t know until after.

“And then I was again convinced to go on stage that night and do the show as a ‘tribute’ to my dad.”

He added: “So, I have regrets about that. My first marriage probably was affected by my blinkered… just getting on [with it mentality].

“I’ve got to get on. Dustin’s gone now. I’ve got to get on with my career.”

The actor and comedian tied the knot with Lynne in 1974, and they later welcomed son Phillip.

However, the union wasn’t to last as the couple went through a heartbreaking divorce 16 years later.

Les was also previously married to Amanda Holden after they met while working on a stage version of The Sound of Music in 1993. At the time of their wedding, Les was 40 and Amanda was just 23 years old.

The pair share two children: Eleanor Grace and Thomas Christopher.
