When I wrote about Helen Mirren’s AARP interview last fall, I touched on her comments about former beau, Liam Neeson. Just that she still adored him, even though she acknowledged they weren’t meant to be. She called herself lucky for having lived with him for the time she did. Now the shoe is on the other foot, and I am pleased to report that Liam feels the exact same about Helen. While speaking to ET Canada, he went one better and said he was ‘honored’ to have spent the time he did with ‘that lady.’ Without going into too much detail, he simply said she was remarkable.

Liam Neeson has nothing but love for former girlfriend Helen Mirren.

In a recent interview with ET Canada, Neeson, 70, called Mirren “a remarkable woman” and actress when asked about their past relationship.

“I should be so lucky and be honored to have spent three or four years with that lady,” Neeson said of the Oscar winner, 77, whom he dated between 1980 and 1985. “She’s really something else.”

Though it’s been a long time since the two were a couple, both actors have always reflected fondly on their history together.

Neeson has also said he was “smitten” right off the bat with Mirren when the two met on the set of their 1981 film Excalibur.

“I remember being on the set and standing with Ciarán Hinds as Helen walked towards us dressed in her full Morgana Le Fey costume and we both went, ‘Oh f—,’ ” he said in 2018 on The Graham Norton Show.

I love to hear exes praise each other. Obviously, some people tilt the scales too far if they aren’t over their formers, but when people break up but carry respect for the person they fell for, it’s groovy. I admit, I default to sort of a ‘duh’ when someone is talking about how fortunate they were to be with Helen Mirren. But Helen described her relationship with Liam as sudden, that they moved in together almost instantly, loved fervidly and then it was over. Those kinds of passionate affairs commonly leave scars simply due to their intensity. And let’s face it, prior to Natasha Richardson, Liam was a bit of a dog. However, even Brooke Shields forgave him for ghosting her while they were engaged. So there’s something about him. And it can’t be *that*, because we’re talking about women who still love him after they’re done sleeping with him. Can you be so d*ckmatized it lasts a lifetime?

Or maybe it’s because Liam owns up to his bad past behavior and says his ex-girlfriends are remarkable.
