Meghan Markle thought curtsying to the Queen was a joke as she laughs hysterically on camera

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went into detail about the time Meghan first met Queen Elizabeth II in their new Netflix documentary series.

Meghan, 41, admitted she thought it was a "joke" when Harry, 38, asked her if she knew how to curtsey before meeting the monarch.

The Duke of Sussex then says: "She had no idea of what it all consisted of. It was a bit of a shock to the system for her."

Meghan explained: "I mean it's surreal. There wasn't some big moment of, 'Now you're going to meet my grandmother.' I didn't know I was gonna meet her until moments before.

"We were in the car going to Royal Lodge for lunch, and he was like, 'Oh my grandmother is there, she's gonna be there after church.' We were in the car, driving and he's like, 'You know how to curtsy, right?' I just thought it was a joke."

Harry continued: "How do you explain that to people? How do you explain that you bow to your grandmother? And that you would need to curtsy, especially to an American. That's weird."

Meghan was then sat next to her husband on a sofa, before laughing about curtseying to the Queen.

"Now I'm starting to realise this is a big deal," she said. "Americans will understand this. We have Medieval times, dinner and tournament. It was like that.

"Like I curtsied as though I was like…" before Meghan is seen doing a curtsy on the sofa and laughing hysterically. "Please to meet you, Your Majesty," she continued, while laughing.

"Like was that okay?" she said, before Harry looks down with a smirk.

"It was so intense. And then when she left, Eugenie, Jack, and Fergie say 'You did great!'

"Thanks. I didn't know what I was doing."

Earlier on in the second episode of their new documentary series, Harry spoke about the early days of their relationship, with him being in the UK and Meghan in Toronto, Canada.

He said: "Dating became car chases, anti-surveillance driving and disguises. Which isn't a particularly healthy way to start a relationship.

"But we always came at it with as much humour as possible.

"Whenever we saw each other we would just give each other a massive hug and try and have as much of a normal life as possible."
