Olly Murs couldn't be happier in life right now, especially after getting engaged to Amelia Tank this summer. But his happy-go-lucky spirit hasn’t always painted an honest picture of how he’s felt in the past.
As he returns with his first new music in four years, the singer, 38, has confessed that his "cheekiness" was a facade while he was single, and away from the spotlight he felt really "quite lonely" underneath it all.
Olly said: "I don’t want to bang on about mental health and the difficult times because I’m feeling great at the moment.
“But all the cheekiness and the fun in the years I was single, it was just a facade. I was genuinely in quite a bad place at times."
He continued: "I didn’t talk about it to my team or anyone. I just felt really s**t, down and lonely. I didn’t like being single.”
The star, who first shot to fame on The X Factor in 2009, explained further: “My private life was non-existent, I had no girlfriend, no one to share it with.
"I was always insecure about that. I was like, ‘Are people with me for the right reasons?’"
Fast forward to 2022, Olly got down on one knee on a Cornish cliffside in June to ask Amelia, 30, for her hand in marriage.
He posted a snap of the two of them with the words: "04.06.2022," before the likes of Vicky Pattison, Amanda Holden, and his best mate Mark Wright's wife Michelle Keegan shared their best wishes.
Michelle, 35, penned: "Awwwww amazing!! Congratulations to you both xxx."
Jason Manford, 41, wrote: "Ahh love this! Congrats you pair of legends."
Former JLS star Marvin Humes, 37, commented: “Amazing news mate! Congrats to you both x," while Aston Merrygold, 34, added: "Good lad! Congratulations both of you."
Fans quickly congratulated the star as one wrote: "I'm so happy you've found the one Olly, congrats," with three love hearts.
Another shared: "Congrats Olly so happy for you."
"So happy for you and Amelia, Olly xxx," one fan said.
