Prince Harry is reportedly desperate to be able to frequently stay in the UK for visits, while Meghan Markle is not as keen.
According to a royal source, Harry desires to return to his homeland regularly, particularly for charity work, while Meghan is less inclined.
It comes as the Duke of Sussex was reportedly denied his request to stay at Windsor Castle this month when he arrived in London for the WellChild Awards before traveling to Germany for the Invictus Games.
The Mirror reports how Prince Harry is understood to have asked for a room at the castle so he could visit the Queen's resting place at St. George's Chapel on the anniversary of her passing, but his request was ‘rejected due to there not being enough space on short notice.’
The incident is understood to have made Harry more keen on sourcing a home base for his UK visits, while Meghan is not as interested in the idea.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, the source said: "Not having anywhere isn't overly helpful. There are friends and hotels, but I know they would like to have somewhere.
"Meghan seems to have decided that coming back more is not what she wants to do, but Harry would like to. Having a base in his home country, despite everything that has happened, is appealing.”
The source went on to add that Harry feels he still has much more work to do in terms of the charities he is involved in.
The couple previously lived at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate, after it was gifted to them by the late Queen.
But earlier this year, the pair were served an eviction notice and told they needed to return their keys back over to King Charles, after the couple left the Royal Family to start a new life together in California.
The royal Insider added that being allowed to keep Frogmore Cottage would have been ‘the perfect setup for them’ with Harry said to be ‘sanguine but pretty sad’ about having to clear it out.
It comes as it was reported that Prince Harry must now “give notice” whenever he plans to visit his father King Charles and stay at any royal properties.
Harry is understood to have stayed at a hotel after his recent request for a room at Windsor Castle was denied.
However, royal aides say temporary accommodation would be available to Prince Harry if he were to visit the UK in the future if he gives a good amount of advanced notice due to King Charles' decision to keep his son as one of his Councillors of State.
