Prince William ‘can’t forgive Prince Harry’ because of Megxit’s toll on his family

Prince Williamcannot “completely forgive”Prince Harryfor ‘Megxit’ because it prematurely thrustPrincess Kateand their children into centre stage, a royal expert said.

The relationship between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex has been fraught since Harry and his wifeMeghan Markledecided to step back from Royal life and make a home in California – in a move dubbed ‘Megxit’.

Soon after the move, Harry and Meghan gave an interview to Oprah Winfrey in which they spoke of how challenging they found life as working royals – while making a racism claim against an unnamed member of the royal household.

And, despite coming together to mourn their late grandmother,Queen Elizabeth II, at her funeral last month, the princes remain at odds.

Now, royal biographer Katie Nicholl has said Prince William, the 40-year-old heir to the throne, "can't completely forgive Harry" for Megxit.

She toldU.S. Weekly: "It had a huge impact on him, on [Princess] Catherine, on their young family. It put them in that prime sort of centre. It moved them centre stage far sooner than they would otherwise have been.

“I think William had always expected that he would have the support of his brother. And I think it wasn’t just that Harry had chosen to leave and to stand down.

“I think a lot of it was how he chose to do that and what William saw as great disrespect to the institution and to his, to his family, to his grandmother.”

She added: “It was very difficult for William, and I think that’s partly why this rift hasn’t been resolved, because, you know, William can’t completely forgive Harry for what he’s done.”

Ms Nicholl, author of book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, added thatKing Charleswould want to heal the relationship between the two brothers so the divide doesn't hang over his reign.

But she claimed any sign of a reconciliation was still some way off – despite the pair coming together for the late Queen’s funeral.

She said: “The funeral was an opportunity for a thawing of what had become incredibly icy relationships, certainly between William and Harry.

“Of course, we saw them on that walkabout in Windsor. But I think any suggestion that there’s been a long term and meaningful reconciliation would be wide of the mark.

“I think there’s a way to go.”

Harry, 38, and his wife, Meghan Markle, relocated to the US in March 2020 after announcing they were stepping down as senior members of the royal family.

Since then, Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven and Prince Louis, four, have been increasingly put in the spotlight.

George and Charlotte both attended the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and also appeared at Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year, along with their younger brother Prince Louis.
