Buckingham Palace has sadly confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II has passed away at the age of 96. Members of the royal family made their way to Balmoral following news of growing health concerns for Her Majesty and to mark the somber news, the U.K. has now entered into an extended mourning period.

As the second-longest reigning monarch in world history, the sovereign was also the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. During Queen Elizabeth II’s time on the throne, she lived through countless historical events ranging from natural disaster and war, to the pandemic.
