Britons brace for more ‘unseasonably wet and windy’ weather in soggy end to July

Britons brace for more 'unseasonably wet and windy' weather

July could bring continued weather chaos, forecasters have warned, with more “unseasonable” conditions on the horizon for the UK.

The weather has turned miserable over the last few weeks, with Britain pounded by severe conditions during what should be one of the country’s hottest months.

Wind and rain have battered England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, causing the Met Office to release weather warnings as Europe bakes in some of the highest temperatures ever recorded.

But as the European mainland prepares for another week of deadly heat, Britons are anticipating the opposite.

A weather forecaster has warned they face grim weather prospects over the next couple of weeks.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Brian Glaze, the chief weather forecaster and founder of The Weather Outlook, said there is no sign of any similar heat to 2022.

He said: “The weather prospects for the next two weeks look very mixed, with no sign of a repeat of last July’s record-breaking heatwave.

“In fact, there is the possibility of unseasonably wet and windy conditions developing at times.”

On the bright side, Mr Glaze added, some of those unsettled spalls will also see patches of warm, drier weather.

He continued: “Even during unsettled periods, we can expect occasional warmer and drier days, especially in the south.”

But, ultimately, the pattern seems content on following its current track, with the chances of “very wet” conditions remaining high in southern England.

Mr Glaze added: “Nevertheless, long-range computer models suggest that the weather will continue to be changeable in the coming weeks, with the potential for it to turn very wet in the southern half of the UK for a time.

“There are tentative indications of it turning much warmer during the second half of August, but in terms of the UK’s weather that is a very long way off and definitely not something to be relied on.”

The Met Office has issued a similar forecast, with meteorologists highlighting that looking more distantly into the future makes predictions less accurate.

The agency’s long-range forecast has outlined the likelihood of showers remaining the “predominant form of precipitation” at the start of its August 2 to 16 predictions.

The forecast adds: “The likelihood of showers may decrease towards the middle of the month, as more settled conditions become somewhat more probable.

“Temperatures are generally expected to be around average for the time of year, perhaps becoming a little warmer by the end of this period.”
