RHOC star Tanya Bardsley on her ADHD misdiagnosis: My brain felt like glue

Tanya Bardsley has candidly opened up on how her "brain felt like glue" as she was misdiagnosed before discovering she had ADHD.

The 41 year old diagnosed with ADHD just before she 40, having been treated for depression and anxiety up until that point.

ADHD is a condition that can create feelings of restlessness, inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsivity. According to the NHS, people with ADHD can have additional problems such as sleep and anxiety disorders.

Former Real Housewives of Cheshire star Tanya has now opened up on what it’s been like going through life taking medication for the wrong condition and how that has impacted her.

She exclusively told OK!: "I’ve had a couple of breakdowns, which have been aired on Housewives and that’s why I had to leave, because my mental health was not in great shape.

"Because I was treated for anxiety and depression all my life and then I got diagnosed with ADHD just before I was 40, I’ve not had a great journey with mental health."

Tanya continued to explain how her brain felt like it was "covered in black film, like glue" and how she has to work hard every day to keep her mind positive.

She said: "It’s like going to the gym every day. If you don’t do squats, your bum is going to go saggy. If I don’t train my mind, that’s gonna go saggy and it’s gonna be covered in black film.

"So I have to just do all these things to make sure I keep the darkness away."

Following her diagnosis, Tanya ended up having a seizure during a photoshoot and was rushed to hospital.

Opening up on the experience on Instagram last November, she wrote: "I have tried 3 different medications for adhd and I stopped taking the 3rd ones after I had heart palpitations and a seizure, so I’ve been back fully adhd and my focus and been terrible these past few weeks and I read on a forum the other night that a lady just takes a ADHD tablet on the day she has to be focused to get work done so I thought 'Ooh this could be perfect for me'.

"I took 1 40mg atomoxetine tablet last night (the tablets I originally started on that didn’t give me heart palpitations) I felt sick all night and been bed bound all bloody day I slept nearly all day and feel like I’m trapped in concrete.

"I’m going to throw myself in a cold shower to try wake up for the kids now but just wanted to warn you don’t be an idiot like me and take advice from the internet, also guess how much work I got done today, zilch," she finished.

Tanya has launched her new fragrance, Chien, with Search Dog Heroes, which is run in partnership by Missing People and Lowland Rescue. The campaign looks to encourage carers and families of vulnerable people to capture the scent of their loved one in the event of them going missing
