Scarlett Johansson Says 'Fragile' Ego Keeps Her Off Social Media!

Scarlett Johansson is opening up about why she’s not on social media — and the reason is actually super relatable!

On Monday’s episode of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast, the Black Widow star got candid about her decision to refrain from social media, admitting she’s “too fragile of a person” to handle it. She explained:

“I can’t. My ego is too fragile. I can’t deal with it. My brain is too fragile. I’m like a delicate flower.”

Aw!

The 38-year-old actress then recalled trying to use Instagram at one point, but she only lasted three days before she had to sign off for good, she shared:

“I spent 20 minutes looking at somebody’s Instagram page who worked for a friend of mine … like, now I know you have a pit bull and two daughters and you live in Burbank.”

Not only did it feel like she’d “wasted 17 minutes” of her life, but the social media stalking started to have a real effect on her:

“I now feel like I should move to California, get this specific dog and change my life in all these ways. I felt so bad, like I was missing out on this random person’s life.”

Comparison can be a bitch! But can you imagine Scarlett Johansson being jealous of you?! This friend of a friend must’ve been living a nice life!

Just because the mother of two doesn’t have an account of her own doesn’t mean she doesn’t indulge in social media from time to time. Thanks to the account for her skincare company The Outset, which she co-founded with Kate Foster, she still makes an appearance on the ‘gram and TikTok in videos she teasingly called “terrible.” Take a look:

Because social media is sometimes part of her job, the Avengers: Endgame lead will see glimpses of it while at work — and she can’t help but enjoy it a bit! She revealed:

“I mean, it’s definitely fun. Anytime I see it in the office, I then become a 3-year-old with their mom’s phone where I’m completely absorbed into it. It’s fun, though.”

Hah! Even though she enjoys some aspects of the internet, the Marriage Story alum said she “knows” she’s not a person who can have social media. Understandable! Better to protect her mental health than get online!

This isn’t the first time Colin Jost‘s wife has been honest about her absence from social media either. While chatting with Interview Magazine in 2011, she said she didn’t “feel the need to” brand herself “in that way,” adding:

“But as a means to share information and raise awareness of things, I think these social-networking platforms are unprecedented.”

Still, she won’t be participating much, she concluded:

“I can’t think of anything I’d rather do less than have to continuously share details of my everyday life.”

To each their own, we guess! Hear Scarlett discuss her career and lack of social media in more depth (below)!
