Selena Gomez is talking all things Rare Beauty.

The 30-year-old “Vulnerable” pop star’s beauty brand turned two earlier this year. Since launching in 2020, it has become a favorite with many in the industry.

She opened up about what she is proud to have accomplished and what sorts of challenges the brand experienced.

Selena told People that she was worried her brand “wasn’t going to sell.”

Another “challenge” that she faced was her commitment to spark a conversation about mental health within the brand. Aside from positive messaging associated with all of the various products, Selena‘s Rare Impact helps those in need receive mental health treatment and resources.

She said that it’s started a trend in the beauty industry: “I’m noticing other brands getting on board with mental health, too, and I’m really, really excited about that. If anything, that’s the most important part of my brand.”

The star commented on how her brand is “challenging the norms” in the industry, noting that’s what she was “most proud” to have accomplished.

“I feel like we were challenging the norms and I really wanted to create a brand that was for everyone,” Selena said.

She also highlighted Rare Beauty‘s versatility. “What I love about my products is that you really don’t need a necessary order,” she explained. “You can always add, and you could always take away. … Whether I want to do a full face or if I just want to keep it natural.”

The pop star and Disney alum opened up about her favorite shades from Rare Beauty‘s popular lipstick and lip liner lines earlier this year.
