‘You could see we were gutted’: Helen Skelton reveals her devastation at missing out on Strictly trophy to Hamza Yassin – and admits ‘every single pro’ wanted partner Gorka Marquez to win

Hamaza Yassin was crowned winner of Strictly Come Dancing in Saturday’s grand finale. 

And fellow finalist Helen Skelton has said that it was clear from her and partner Gorka Marquez’s face ‘how gutted’ they were not to raise the Glitterball trophy.  

She was speaking after viewers spotted Gorka ‘fuming’ in the final, saying ‘every pro on the show’ was desperate for him to win – after he previously reached the final twice without success.

Joined by the dancer on her Radio 5 show on Monday she told listeners: ‘Every pro on the show was desperate for him to win and that says everything abut him. 

Adding: ‘He’s my hero of the week’. 

Speaking about Hamza’s win, she continued: ‘Obviously we’re delighted for Hamza because he put in some amazing dances through the season.

Winner: She was speaking after viewers spotted Gorka ‘fuming’ in the final, saying ‘every pro on the show’ was desperate for him to win – after he had perviously reached the final twice without success (Winner Hamza Yassin with his pro partner Jowita Przystal) 

‘But Gorka and I, our reaction, you could tell how gutted we were.’

Speaking about fans spotting his unhappy expression as the results were announced Gorka said: ‘I wasn’t fuming but I wanted Helen to finish the season with the cherry 

‘I was happy for Hamza and Jowita, they’ve been amazing.’

Hamza and Jowita were crowned the winners of the hit show, despite landing at the bottom of the leaderboard thanks to their Showdance which was earlier branded ‘underwhelming’.

‘Gorka is fuming and rightly so! Helen has won in so many ways. Good on her and she is my winner,’ one fan tweeted.

‘Gorka is absolutely fuming and rightly so,’ another fan added.

‘What do you look like when you’ve been robbed?’ Another fan said.

Gorka had previously reached the final alongside Maisie Smith in 2020 and Alexandra Burke in 2017.

Despite upset Gorka gushing message thanking the fans and partner Helen Skelton for the 2022 series on Sunday.

The professional dancer showed there were no hard feelings as he also congratulated Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal on their win.

Gorka took to Instagram to share a slew of playful behind-the-scenes snaps with Helen.

Captioning them, he wrote: ‘STRICTLY 22. Oh… Where to start, It’s has been a incredible journey. I feel so grateful I got not only to dance with you @helenskelton but also to be by your side in your own personal journey and see your transformation from day one.

‘Thank you for all the memories, laughs, coffees, toast, parent chats, car journeys.
