Shane MacGowan’s wife pens tribute as she marks milestone with The Pogues star

Victoria Mary Clarke reveals how she met Shane MacGowan

Just days after he returned home from hospital, Shane MacGowan’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke paid tribute to her husband on what is their fifth wedding anniversary.

Victoria took to Instagram to post a sweet message for her 83,000 followers to see.

She posted a picture of the pair from their wedding day, as Shane, 65, looked dapper in a navy suit while Victoria looked stunning in a red wedding dress.

Alongside the snap, she wrote: “One of my favourite pictures of our wedding which was five years ago today.

“Getting to Copenhagen was quite an achievement and I suppose just getting through some of the stuff that we all went through to get to be still alive was an achievement!

“It was a beautiful thing to feel so much love. From everyone who made it possible, a wedding is very much a collaboration of love.”

She ended the post by thanking and tagging everyone who made her and Shane’s special day so amazing.

Victoria’s post comes just four days after Shane was released from hospital and allowed to go back home.

She shared a health update with his beloved fans on his life-threatening brain condition.

The Pogues star is suffering from encephalitis, which is an uncommon but serious condition in which the brain becomes inflamed and can prove life-threatening.

Victoria shared a picture of the singer smiling from his hospital bed and thanked the NHS for taking such good care of her husband.

The Fairytale of New York singer has suffered a number of health complications and is believed to have been admitted to hospital in July.

Around the same time, Shane also reportedly contracted shingles which spread to his eye.

Shane revealed last year that he was using a “sumptuous” hospital bed and needed daily help from carers due to his mobility issues.

This came after he suffered a nasty fall which resulted in him breaking his pelvis in 2015.
