Shania Twain got candid about a painful time in her life — the moment she found out her ex-husband was cheating on her with her best friend!
For those who don’t know, the country music world was rocked in 2008 when the 57-year-old singer found out her ex and longtime collaborator Robert “Mutt” Lange was cheating on her with (now-former) close pal Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Seriously, dude??? That’s awful. Shania was devastated by the infidelity and divorced the record producer after 17 years of marriage. Now, the songstress is opening up about the ordeal fifteen years later.

During an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast on Monday, the two co-hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman shared that they were “really nervous” to talk about the infamous scandal. However, Shania insisted she wasn’t “embarrass” by it. In fact, she offered up some tea, revealing that Robert and Marie-Anne are still together. Wow! The You’re Still The One musician also shared that doesn’t have much of a relationship with them anymore. Totally understandable. According to Shania, the only time she and her ex-husband talk to each other is when it comes to matters about their 21-year-old son, Eja. She said:
“Mutt and I parent well together — for people who don’t talk to each other. We’ll just text. We both love our son so much, so we don’t play any games like that. We have the same priority; we share spaces for him. No nonsense there.”
That’s good to hear! We love to see a former Hollywood couple maintaining a good co-parenting relationship – because we all know how messy and rough it can get. We’re talking about Kim and Kanye…
While the drama surrounding their divorce must have been hard for Shania, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. She actually ended up marrying her former pal’s ex-husband Frédéric Thiébaud (pictured above, right inset) in 2011 – and they’ve been together ever since!
On the podcast episode, Dax joked that the exes played “musical chairs” by swapping partners – but Shania explained that she “didn’t really know Fréd very well” before the cheating scandal. As the country music star recalled, “it was a beautiful surprise” for her to witness “how gracefully and graciously he was dealing with navigating the same pain.” For her part, Shania said she felt “fragile” over the betrayal while the 52-year-old businessman seemed “thoughtful” at the time:
“Fréd’s so smart. This is one of the smartest people I know, he didn’t know either. That helped me feel better.”
Ultimately, the Man! I Feel Like A Woman! artist noted “everyone gets what they deserve.” True! She then gushed:
“I got what I deserve. I got the greatest man on the planet.”
