Call the Midwife is back on BBC One and viewers were delighted to hear Helen George would reprise her role as Trixie Franklin. The actress left during the previous season to go on maternity leave as she was due to give birth to her second daughter, Lark. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about the star’s life with her partner and children.

Trixie and Matthew have become one of the fan-favourite couples of the series after Matthew did everything to wow the midwife.

Actress Helen said it was “really lovely” filming their romantic scenes on Albert Bridge in Battersea.

When discussing the run-up to the wedding, Helen admitted Trixie comes under some pressure with planning.

She told Express.co.uk: “She is getting very upset about a tiara, it means a lot. Hopefully, she is only going to have one wedding.

“So she wants to get it right but yeah she gets stressed along the way. But also because she’s planning it herself so it is a big occasion to plan by yourself.”

In April 2016, she began dating her Call the Midwife co-star Jack Ashton, who played Tom Hereward.

They were filming in South Africa for the Christmas special when they made their relationship official.

Their first daughter, Wren Ivy, was born in September 2017 and Helen had been diagnosed with a medical condition called ICP during the pregnancy.

In November 2021, she gave birth to her second daughter, Lark, who is now over a year old.

In December the family was seen attending Hey Duggee’s first-ever live theatre tour in London.

Posing next to the characters from the show, Helen held her eldest daughter.

Jack was stood next to her with Lark in his arms, and the family were all smiles on their day out.

Helen shared a birthday post for Lark on her Instagram account, and it showed their daughter sitting in front of a huge pile of presents.

A big number one balloon was also used to mark the special occasion.

Helen and Jack moved into their home together in 2020 and have since made it the perfect family environment.

Helen will be starring as one of the main cast in season 12 of Call the Midwife and she received a warm welcome back.

The official Facebook page for the show shared: “While Helen has been away she’s had a little ‘midwife calling’ of her own to do, as she is now the proud mother of two.

“Her gorgeous new daughter, Lark, was born late last year, and Helen is now ready to get back into the saddle of her bicycle to minister to the women of Poplar once more.

“We are thrilled to have her back, and just can’t wait to show you the next developments in Trixie’s journey.

“Call the Midwife will return with a new Christmas Special and Series 12 in 2023 xx.”

Speaking of the Christmas special, Helen continued: “It was really lovely and we were filming on Albert Bridge in Battersea and the councillor said ‘Oh yeah we will leave the lights on all night for you so you can film all night.’

“It was a night shoot and five to 10 after we had done one take the lights went out, they were on hold to the council for the rest of the night trying to get them on.”

The Call The Midwife Christmas special airs on BBC One at 7.55pm
