Sunday night saw Tyler West and his pro partner Dianne Buswell wave goodbye as they became the eighth pairing to leave the Strictly Come Dancing competition.

The radio DJ, 26, and Dianne, 33, found themselves in the bottom two and had no choice but to dance off against CBBC star Molly Rainford, 21, and her dance partner Carlos Gu, 28.

Following the tense routines, judges Shirley Ballas, 62, Craig Revel Horwood, 57, and Motsi Mabuse, 41, voted for the blonde beauty, while Anton Du Beke, 56, favoured Tyler.

Labelling it as “one of the most difficult dance-offs that we’ve ever had to choose,” Shirley said of her decision: “Both couples were outstanding, both improved their performances but I am going to go with what I believe in, and that is a quality of movement and precision in partnering.”

Now, fans have been left convinced they've figured out the real reason behind Tyler's shock exit from the BBC programme as one fan rushed to Twitter to share: "New strictly curse in town is that Afro wig. It’s taken out @AstonMerrygold and it’s just done @TylerWestt dirty as well. #Strictly".

Another chimed: "I said Tyler would go from #strictly yesterday when he first appeared with that wig – before they even danced – Afro wigs are the kiss of death on strictly – no one votes for wigs or face covering masks."

A third shared: "#strictly #Tyler I said Tyler was doomed as soon as I saw him in that wig on Saturday night," alongside a crying emoji.

While a fourth added: "The Afro wig that Tyler & Aston have worn is the REAL Strictly Curse #Strictly".

Reflecting on his time on the show last night, the Tyler said: “I’m more than a two-step now! When you watch the show at home, you wonder what it must be like to dance on it, it’s everything and more, it’s changed my life.

“This girl here has changed my life, for sure. To think I was some shy kid who never used to talk to anyone, to dancing in front of millions, I can’t put it into words."

Tyler, who recently told OK! that he was having nightmares, went on: "It’s my mum’s favourite show, I bought her to Blackpool, my nan, bless her, was always watching over me on this journey. But, more importantly, this show has changed my life in the sense it’s given me confidence, a new-found family, every dancer, everyone in hair and make-up, costume.

“The judges, it’s been amazing to dance in front of you every week, I genuinely mean that.”

Discussing being partnered up with Dianne, Tyler said he was “blessed with the best”.

“She is what Strictly is about and she’s changed my life,” he further gushed. “I have no doubt she will be in my life forever.”

Dianne also praised her partner, describing him as an “absolute joy to work with”, adding: “You have come in every single session with the biggest smile on your face and it lights up this whole ballroom.

“You are such a talent, you really are, and you should feel so proud, I am so proud of you, your family are so proud and your nan is so proud of you. Thank you so much for everything.”
