Amy Dowden shaves her head amid cancer treatment

Amy Dowden made fans emotional as she made an unexpected appearance in tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing.

At the end of the video trailer that showed professional dancers of the show with their partners, fans noticed Amy had been included to showcase her moves.

Taking to X, one wrote: “How wonderful to see the amazing and inspirational @dowden_ amy on the #StrictlyComeDancing opening titles.” (sic)

A second added: “It’s lovely to see Amy included in the intro #StrictlyComeDancing.” (sic)

While a third penned on social media: “So glad they’ve included Amy in the opening titles #StrictlyComeDancing.” (sic)

It comes as Amy revealed she is hoping to “be there” with her fellow Strictly Come Dancing professionals in “a few weeks” amid chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer.

The Welsh ballroom star shared the news alongside a photo of her in a promotional shot for the BBC dance competition, just a day after shaving her natural hair in an emotional Instagram video.

Looking radiant in a gold sequin frock, Amy typed: “Happy live show day @bbcstrictly. Wishing the entire team a fabulous show and I know it’s going to be amazing!

“I’ve been kept up to date with the pros and a few sneaky FaceTimes!”

“Literally can’t wait to watch and support you all. Hopefully, I’ll be there in a few weeks,” she added.

Her 538,000 followers were delighted with the news as they shared their joy in the comment section.

Strictly host Claudia Winkleman typed: “We love you.”

Professional dancer Katya Jones said: “We gonna miss you so much tonight! Will do everything to make you proud.”

Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley added: “We can’t wait to see you back on that dance floor shining brighter than ever!”

The dancer was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in July and has been sharing her experiences on social media.

She first discovered the first lump in April, a day before she was due to go on her honeymoon in the Maldives with her husband Ben.

After a mastectomy, she was told the tumours had spread and another type of cancer was discovered.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday on BBC One.
