Vernon Kay has revealed that despite their hectic schedules, he and wife Tess Daly still manage to find the balance between nurturing their personal and professional lives. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk at the Heart Hero Awards, the BBC Radio 2 host revealed the busy couple “just get on with it”.
When quizzed on the secret to their successful marriage, Vernon, 49, shared: “We just get on with it. Tess is on Strictly on Saturday, I’m on radio five days a week.
“There’s a lot of people going about their daily business and everyone’s got stuff to deal with. So there are no exceptions, you just get on with it and just deal with it.”
Vernon admitted that he has learnt a valuable lesson about how to live life during his 20-year marriage to the Strictly Come Dancing host. “The one thing I’ve learned is, we just need positivity in our lives to lift us up,” the BBC star explained.
Ahead of hosting the awards ceremony for a fifth time, Vernon shared how the uplifting nature of the event helps him to move away from negativity and recognise what is important in life. The dad-of-two, who is now a BHF ambassador, added: “It’s a really heartwarming and emotional event.”

Alongside the awards, Vernon was recently greeted by his proud wife Tess after completing his 115-mile ultramarathon in aid of Children In Need.
The DJ raised over £6million for Children In Need during the tough four-day challenge.
Vernon showed his resilience while admitting his injuries were still plaguing him on the red carpet.
“On the scale of things, a couple of dodgy knees and a wonky ankle is, kind of, nothing…” he bravely shared.

However, he went on to provide a pretty gruesome update on the black toenails he sustained from the gruelling endurance challenge.
“Actually, funnily enough, this evening I’ve come out and I don’t know what’s going on with one of my little toes…” he said.
“But the nail is starting to slide off that!”
Strictly presenter Tess, 54, embraced Vernon when he returned home after the ultramarathon, gushing on Instagram: “Not to get all sentimental on here but we are so proud of @vernonkay and all he’s achieved and raised for @bbccin.
“When he first said he was running 116 miles in 4 days for charity, we were shocked to say the least (and genuinely wondered if his knees would make it through), but with every day he accomplished more and more miles.”
Vernon spoke to Express.co.uk at the Heart Hero Awards, which celebrates the incredible fundraisers, young advocates, lifesavers, healthcare professionals and outstanding supporters who go above and beyond for British Heart Foundation.
